At our last Detention Forum members’ meeting we took time to reflect on the current challenging external environment as seek to develop our mission of ending the use of immigration detention in the UK.

We are very conscious that there is a push by the Government towards an expansion of the use of immigration detention but that no account has been taken of the human impact of detention.

We believe across our diverse network that we have a major role, both directly and with our partners, to confront Parliamentarians with the reality of the human consequences of immigration detention, and as a result to build new support in Parliament for change.

Over the next few months we will develop resources on the human impact of immigration detention to be shared and used widely:

  • A written briefing with suggested actions
  • A Q&A sheet
  • Key statistics
  • Human stories from both people with experience of detention and of visiting people in detention
  • Refresh our website to include these materials as a call to action

Despite the challenges, our members are more resolved than ever to work together to highlight the horrendous human cost of immigration detention as well as the financial cost and promote our vision of a support environment in this country.
