Further to the recent attempt by the Government to expand the detention centre at Campsfield in Oxfordshire by using the Crown Development Route, the planning inspectorate has agreed to hold a public inquiry. Whilst we had wanted this application to be rejected, we are pleased that this proposal to expand the detention estate is going to be subject to public scrutiny. There is now going to be a public inquiry on 6th October. You can read this excellent blog by Right to Remain for more information on this process.
This feels like a pivotal moment in the history of the use of immigration detention in this country, and we are encouraging all people concerned about this cruel practice to engage with this public inquiry!
