This week the Detention Forum was fortunate enough to be invited to attend and speak at the campaign meeting of NoTo Hassockfield.

They are members of our Forum, and it is always inspiring when we are able to connect with them. If you don’t know about them, they are well worth checking out as they are a campaign group based in the north-east of England, which is campaigning against the Derwentside detention centre. The centre was only opened a few years ago, in a remote part of the country and for women only.

They are an inspirational example of what local campaigners can do to raise awareness and build support for change in the policy of detaining people because of their immigration status. Their campaigns, demonstrations and engagement with local politicians are incredibly impressive and represent a real beacon of hope to other groups around the country.

We are proud that they are one of our growing number of members across the country working together to challenge the use of immigration detention!
