We were devastated to learn about the tragic death of an Albanian man on Friday at Brook House, the detention centre near Gatwick Airport. Our thoughts are with his family and friends and the wider community affected by this awful development.
This news, coming as it does so soon after the publication of the Brook House Inquiry, surely makes the case even more powerfully against the continued use of immigration detention in this country. Locking up people indefinitely because of their immigration status is inhumane, unjust, and cruel. It is time for a change, and it is time for an alternative to this inhumane practice.
