The Detention Forum was keen to add our support to the Together With Refugees letter demanding the Government scrap their child detention plans in the ‘Illegal Migration Bill’. Over 150 organisations from across the country including children’s charities, faith groups and medical bodies added their voices to this important call. Things are moving quickly with MPs voting on the Bill and the Government offering a ‘concession’ on child detention. The concession proposed for unaccompanied children is wholly inadequate – and the Government is offering nothing to help children who arrive with their families, who are some of the youngest and most vulnerable. We must continue to oppose these changes.
