There have been reports in the media that people are being held at the Manston short-term holding facility in Kent beyond the 24-48 hours with some people staying there for a week.
The Prison Officers Association has described conditions there being like a ‘pressure cooker’, and people are being accommodated in large tents.
This is not the way that we should be looking after people arriving in this country looking for safety. We need a more compassionate and humane approach.
