We are delighted to see that the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Immigration Detention has launched an inquiry into the UK Government’s use of large-scale institutional sites, such as former military barracks and a temporarily ‘de-designated’ Immigration Removal Centre (IRC), as asylum accommodation. They have described this practice as ‘quasi detention.’

We are really concerned at this development and some of our members have been very involved in supporting people in both the barracks at Napier in Kent and in Penally in Wales. We are encouraging our members and partners who have experience with these developments to submit evidence to this important and timely inquiry.
